The Guardian: Historian finds German decree banishing Trump’s grandfather

Friedrich Drumpf came to the United States as an unaccompanied minor in 1885. Luckily in those days they didn’t throw unaccompanied minors in cages, but instead welcomed them:

Heretofore we have welcomed all who came to us from other lands except those whose moral or physical conditions or history threatened danger to our national welfare and safety…. We have encouraged those coming from foreign countries to cast their lot with us and join in the development of our vast domains, securing in return a share in the blessings of American citizenship. – President Grover Cleveland, 1897

He later anglicized his last name to Trump, He achieved the American Dream as an immigrant, leaving a small fortune to his son, Fred Trump, who grew the fortune through racism and skulduggery. The younger Trump passed on those skills and the fortune to his son Donald, who as President became the symbol of nativism that would have excluded his family from America, albeit Friedrich didn’t come from a shithole country.

Ironically, Friedrich tried to return to live in Germany with his American fortune but was deported for failing to serve compulsory military service. Runs in the family I guess…
