Pictures of children in cages are all over the Internet. There is a lot of anger at the sheer inhumanity of it.
But not enough.
Yesterday we celebrated the nation’s independence. For some it was a day to glory in our military might. For others, a day to celebrate the genius of the founders. For some it was a day to go to the beach or some other outdoor fun or just a backyard barbecue. It was, in spite of the President’s celebration of aMErica, it was a normal American holiday.
But it shouldn’t be.
Because there are pictures of children in cages all over the Internet. All over our national consciousness. How can we celebrate a nation that celebrates while innocent children suffer in government cages.

To grasp what is going on in the world right now, we need to reflect on two things. One is that we are in a phase of trial runs. The other is that what is being trialled is fascism – a word that should be used carefully but not shirked when it is so clearly on the horizon.
